Our Shop / About Us - Milagros

Milagros are the small silver charms that the Mexicans pin to images of the Virgin Mary and Saints. A fisherman may pin a silver fish to a Saint and pray for a good catch. Milagros translates from Spanish as Miracle. We are often greeted by friends we haven’t seen for a while with “Que milagro”.

Milagros works with independent makers and small workshops to create quality hand made products, combining both traditional techniques with contemporary design. All our products are sourced in Mexico.

Our shop is found in London’s East End, next to Columbia Road flower market. We are open on Sundays from 9am to 3pm or by appointment.

Hand-made Mexican Ceramic Wall Tiles

We import hand made ceramic Mexican wall tiles. The tiles are available in fifteen different colours including red, orange and black. The hand made tiles are suitable for bathrooms and kitchens.
Prices for the tiles begin at 24p or £20.60 per square meter. They are available to buy from our shop in London, our warehouse in Bristol or online.

Milagros imports hand blown recycled glassware from Mexico. We work with three different workshops. Each creating distinctive recycled glassware. Engraved glassware, coloured glassware and clear glassware available in vases, jugs, wineglasses, tumblers and bowl.

We have travelled extensively throughout Mexico. We are continually sourcing new objects that reflect the bold and exuberant colours of Mexico and their distinct culture. We currently have ceramic skeletons, Mexican silver jewellery, brightly woven laundry baskets, ironing baskets and waste paper baskets, lottery mirrors, Milagros, wooden figures from Oaxaca, day of the dead niches, hand woven bags, oil cloth bags in stock and ceramics.

If you are looking for something that we have not mentioned don’t hesitate to ask.

If you are interested in travelling to Mexico we may be able to help or advise you. Free and independent travel advice is available through our online forum.

Our Shop

Our shop is open on Sunday in the old Jewish flower market. Columbia Road is situated in the East End with Shoreditch to the west, Brick Lane, Spita Fields and the City to the south. It is part of the East
End of London that escaped being bombed during the war and retains a Dickensian mood. It is often used as a film location.

On Sunday the street is transformed into oasis of foliage and flowers. Everything from bedding plants to 10 foot banana trees are up for grabs. The air is intense with the scent of flowers and the chant of the barrow boys “Everthin a fiver”. There are a variety of shops that line the market pot shops, antique shops, art galleries, food shops, as well as great independent cafes and pubs.

Parking isn’t problem as long as you park on the north side of the Hackney Road avoiding Tower Hamlets. Beware; it is reach pickings for traffic wardens on a Sunday. Otherwise there are train and underground services at Liverpool Street and Old Street.

The buses are the 26 from Waterloo to Hackney Wick, the 48 from Walthamstow to Leyton via London Bridge and the 55 from Oxford Circus to Leyton. They all stop opposite Columbia Road along the Hackney Road. But throw away your A to Z, follow your nose, your ears and walk in the opposite direction of the swaying, staggering 10ft trees.
